I remember you O’ God
On that fateful day
When you came to Jerusalem
Palm fronds on your way
How they cheered
For you as Lord
And called you Christ and King
As they lined the city streets
While “Hosanna” they did sing
I remember how
You climbed the stairs
Where they sat and sold
Forgiveness for precious silver
And salvation for yellow gold
I remember how
You drove them out
Of their privileged places
As all the priests stood looking on
With hard and stony faces
And how they entered
Into a plot
To take away your deed
They thought that they
Could kill you
By nailing you to a tree
But what you did
With your death
Was instead to set us free
You gave us all
Life instead
For all eternity
